A Summer Project

Photos from my final summer project for First Year.

It was a group project based on Boxing and Norman Hartnell, the Royal Couturier. Absolutely loved this project, I have always been a sucker for old school glamour and our allocated designer gave us the chance to design some really beautiful, long gowns. The boxing element also gave me the chance to use leather and padding, which as someone with a slight leather fetish, was perfect!

I really loved our final shoot for the collection. Another aspect of our project was a scruffy, pub aesthetic so we managed to shoot our looks in a cute, little pub called The Castle in Whitechapel. I recommend the pub, for the music alone, I have never had such a brilliant soundtrack to a shoot.

Flying the First Year Nest

Some of my work from my first project at LCF.

It really has been an incredible year for me, and hopefully the first of many. I have wanted to live in London and study Fashion for as long as I can remember and I still have to pinch myself sometimes when I realise that I'm doing it.

I have laughed and cried, launched wars against Nazi Housemates over rice krispies, gone without sleep for over 50 hours before a deadline, ran around the London Underground painted like a tiger, protested with 50,000 students, celebrated with thousands in Hyde Park for the Royal Wedding and had a bloody good time doing all of it.

Here's to an even better year come September!

Big Hair

These were taken a while ago now, sometime in December when we went out to celebrate the end of our Winter term. I'm wearing my old trusty American Apparel skater dress, I absolutely love it and wear it far too much, and have teamed it with a leather jacket and a big woolly scarf (more for practicality and to avoid pneumonia than anything else but I think it kinda works). For this night I decided to do something big and a little mad for my hair, I've become far too complacent and boring with my hair and wanted to try something different. Also watching re-runs of all 6 series of Sex and the City I suppose I was inspired by Carrie's lovely big curls. Naturally my hair is very thick and quite curly so it holds artificial curls from curling irons really well. For this I just roughly curled all my hair and then backcombed it at the roots and ends. Because my fringe is growing out and at an awkward stage I just stuck a headband over the top to keep it to one side. Bit of a modern take on the 1920's curls and hairbands, which I adore.

Fur Real?

One of my favourite things to wear during this winter has been my Musquash fur coat, which I got from my Grandmother when she downsized to an apartment. I don't condone real fur being used in fashion nowadays but with vintage fashion I don't have a problem with it. As far as I'm concerned they're beautiful pieces and shouldn't be wasted. I haven't had any paint thrown over me yet so hopefully people have finally realised we can appreciate vintage fur without having to hark on about animal rights all the time. Most of the fur we see in vintage stores is from the 60's, and refusing to wear it isn't going to resurrect the animals any time soon. Controversial? Maybe.

In the outfit posted above I've teamed my fur with my new leather panelled trousers from Urban Outfitters, a scarf which used to be my Mum's and striped beret from Topshop. My shoes are also Topshop and I've pulled UO grey socks over them for a slightly different look. I'd really love to try this with some long leggings over heels but at 5'10 I find it hard to find leggings which extend over my ankles let alone long enough to pull over heels. I'll just have to keep looking!

Purple Reign

I knew I had to have this colour as soon as I saw it. Similar to the colours used by YSL and Louis Vuitton for their SS 11, it's called Cyber by Mac. It's actually my first Mac lipstick I've bought, I never seem to have enough disposable cash to buy good quality makeup but with a colour like this you pretty much need to go for quality, to avoid looking like you're dressing up for halloween. I wasn't disappointed. Lovely bold, strong, statement colour to spruce up an outfit. I think it's lush :)

London Living

My first term at London College of Fashion has been a manic one and a as a result I've guiltily neglected my blog. I've decided as one of my (early) New Year Resolutions to take it up again, along with detoxing, healthy eating and to stop eating my body weight in Mince Pies.
